Last Block Laid Out for Terra Australis Quilt

Since I’ve become so enamored of Half-Square Triangles (HSTs) in the last six months, I always look with interest at the blog posts from Alyce at Blossom Heart Quilts for her Modern HST Sampler. Yesterday I saw that Jess of Elven Garden Quilts posted a tutorial for a block called Introspection. I found this block very striking and thought it would be perfect for the LAST block for my Terra Australis sampler quilt. As of last Friday (July 15th), I had 18 of my 25 blocks sewn. Well, I put it in high gear and have sewed my butt off (unfortunately you can’t really tell!) and finished six more squares.

This morning I started to lay out the Introspection block for Block 25, the last block for my Terra Australis quilt. Below is the layout following Jess’ tutorial:

I like how this block looks, but then I wondered how it would look flipping the outer corners:

I think the last layout fits in well with all my other blocks. I’m not going to sew it until the morning because I make the most STUPID mistakes when I sew when I’m tired. I’m wondering which layout you prefer?

In case you want to take a look at my first 18 blocks, here’s a pic:

  1. You have made great progress! I like both layouts of the block for different reasons. In the original version I like how the solid fabric design reads in the center, and in the version with the flipped corners I like the shape of print. 🙂

I like both versions as well but I think the 2nd version fits with the other stars in the quilt. Great progress to get to the last block. I also can’t sew well at night.

I love, love, love the fabrics in your blocks and how they are coming together. I think both layouts for the look great. I’m kind of crushing on the second version. Can’t wait to see what you choose.

I love the colours in your latest block, having just made placemats in orange and grey. The Terra Australis range looks fabulous in your quilt. I have a couple of packs of 2 1/2 inch Terra Australis strips but am still deciding on a quilt pattern to use them to their best effect.

I love the colors you picked for your blocks. You are making incredible progress. I like the bottom version of your last block. It reminds me of the Rising Star block at the top of this post.
