July 2020 OMG Finish

My July 2020 One Monthly Goal was to turn the Sashiko designs that I finished in June into coasters. I used Twiggy & Opal’s Mini Mini Binding Tutorial to bind these 4-inch mini minis. I’ll be sending these coasters to my niece, Mary Frances, for her birthday next month. I really like how they look with the binding, so I’m very glad that I finally learned how to bind mini minis (Thanks Jayne! Check out the link above. She has some great tips!). The second photo below shows the back of the each of the coaster (arranged in the same order). The backing fabric was from my mom’s fabric stash from the 1990s that I went through with my niece when I visited last September.

Sashiko is definitely fun and a little bit addictive. There are some great Sashiko You Tube videos. I particularly liked the Sashiko coasters videos shared by Blair with Wise Craft Handmade.

Hi Mary! I can’t believe that backing fabric was in your mom’s stash. How perfect is that?!! Your coasters turned out just fabulously. Did you use a different fabric for the binding? One with a slight pattern, or maybe a Grunge? Your niece will be thrilled to receive and use them. At least, I would be! Nice job (or good job, Buddy, as Dominic would say). ~smile~ Roseanne

  2. Oh wow, Mary – they turned out great! I love the backings as much as the fronts. She’s going to be delighted with this little gift!

  3. The coasters turned out great, and I’m glad you were able to use Jayne’s tutorial to get them bound and ready to be gifted. I have to admit that there are several handwork projects that tempt me greatly (like Sashiko) that I’m a bit afraid to try as I suspect I will go down a rabbit hole. 🙂
