What’s Been Going on in January 2024

I’ve had a busy January working on several quilting projects. My favorite finish of January (and my ONLY finish!) was the Kite in Purple Sky mini that I made for the Project Quilting 15.2 Sky Color challenge.

I also made two 6.5″ squares for Geeky Bobbin’s Fussy Fuel 2024 Block of the Month. I am using Alison Glass fabrics for this BOM that is focused on learning new fussy cutting techniques.

I’m also participating this year again in the Stay at Home Round Robin 2024 hosted by Quilting Gail. I’ve written three posts so far about this project: SAHRR 2024 Center, SAHRR 2024 Border 1, and SAHRR 2024 Border 2.

I have been busy cutting up a lot of scraps for future projects including two of Erica at Kitchen Table Quilting’s patterns (The Cleo Quilt-Rainbow Version and Rainbow Modern Postage Stamp Quilt). I was definitely inspired by her Are You Ready for a Scrap Challenge post. I’ll share some pics of these scraps next month.

For the first time, I’m also going to participate in So Scrappy’s Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2024, but in a very small and doable way. The color designated for January is bright and dark green. On the last day of January I made one green Modern Postage Stamp block (I need 7 more) and a small 6″ x 8.5″ strip-pieced block. When I went to a recent quilt guild meeting, I saw a lovely rainbow quilt made using old dryer sheets for the foundation for strip-pieced blocks, and I thought it would be very doable to make one a month, and maybe I’ll make a table runner with the blocks at the end of the year.

What’s Up for February?

  • Make seven more of the green postage stamp blocks
  • Start sewing some HSTs for the Star Pulse Quilt Along hosted by Quilting Jetgirl.
  • Make a red strip-pieced block for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2024
  • Make the February Fussy Fuel block
  • Make more borders for my SAHRR 2024 project
  • Cut a lot more scraps for my rainbow Cleo and Modern Postage Stamp quilt projects
  • Possibly participate in another Project Quilting challenge
  • Attend QuiltCon in Raleigh, NC and take a Watercolor-to-Quilt class from Kitty Wilkin
  • Some secret sewing

As a side note, I want to apologize for my lack of commenting on posts for many of you who use the Blogger platform. I read quilting blog posts almost everyday, and I do like to give positive feedback to quilt bloggers who share so freely about their amazing projects. But I’ve had a heck of a time being able to comment on Blogger posts. My comments either seem to go into cyberspace or show up as anonymous. I’m still trying to make this work, so please bare with me.

  1. Your Alison Glass blocks are gorgeous! I love your greens – mine are not that pretty! We Blogger folks should be apologizing to you. Blogger is not comment friendly! If I could figure out WordPress, I would have been on it long ago.

  2. You’ve been busy, and it makes me smile to see that. I’m so glad you are free to do more quilting these days! I like all of your projects, of course my personal favorite is your SAHRR. I hope you send some photos of your QuiltCon experience! Sounds fun.

  3. I hope to see you at QuiltCon in Raleigh! Right now it looks like I’m going to try to meet up with another Patron at 1pm on Friday afternoon. Probably near the registration desk area. You have a lot of fun projects underway, and I look forward to seeing more of these projects develop. Thank you for linking up with Favorite Finish.

  4. I love your purple kite, and I hope you have fun with the RSC challenge! I am highly doubting that I will be at QuiltCon after all, even though I am registered and have a hotel room reserved. We are leaving Charlotte on the 9th and closing on our new house in Florida on the 20th, and I considering that I am still packing and I am exhausted and I don’t have a plane ticket so I’d have to drive 14 hours to get there… I just don’t see it happening. Thank goodness I did NOT register for classes and was just planning to enjoy the quilts and the vendor shopping! I hope you have a blast and take LOTS of pictures and write all about it on your blog so I can experience QuiltCon vicariously through your eyes!
