I am joining the weekly To-Do Tuesday Weekly Progress Update Linky Party hosted by my friend, Roseanne, at Home Sewn By Us.
To-Do for the week of July 21st-27th:
- Bind the other three Sashiko coasters. √ Done
- Work on my Drunkard’s Path (Aviary) quilt. √ Done
- Make a few more cats for my Mini Kitty Quilt. √ Done
I finished binding the Sashiko coasters that I’ll be giving to my niece, Mary Frances, for her birthday in August. I really like how they look with the binding, so I’m very glad that I finally learned how to bind mini minis using Twiggy and Opal’s Mini Mini Binding tutorial. The second photo below shows the back of the each of the coaster (arranged in the same order). The backing fabric was from my mom’s fabric stash from the 1990s that I went through with my niece when I visited last September.
At first I didn’t think I could fussy cut using the Accuquilt Drunkard’s Path Die, so I used 5 1/2” acrylic templates for a couple fussy cut birds, but I’m not the biggest fan of templates. So I experimented with the Accuquilt Drunkard’s Path die and found I could fussy cut if I carefully placed the birds centered near the curve. I played with a new photo collage program called Moldiv which allowed me insert a little text label.
I am having so much fun making these cat blocks! They are super quick to make, and I love picking a different named cat with its own unique configuration to make each day from Elizabeth Hartman’s Cat pattern.
To-Do for the week of July 28th-August 3rd:
- Make three more cats for my Mini Kitty Quilt.
- Start sewing the curved units into blocks for my Aviary quilt.
- Write my August OMG post.
