Weekly Progress Update #132

To-Do for the week of Feb 14th-20th:

  1. Finish Lucy’s I Spy quilt top. √Done
  2. Make the fifth border for SAHRR. √Done
  3. Work on temperature and/or Peloton units. √Done

To-Do #1

Below is a pic of the I Spy quilt top for Lucy’s first birthday in April. I used some 5″ inch squares from an I Spy assortment I purchased on Etsy but also had fun cutting some squares from my stash such as the horse, the trailer, the butterfly, and the chickens. Melissa with Sew Shabby Quilting has already received my quilt top (and a super cute backing panel), so I should be able to make Lucy’s April 13th birthday.

To-Do #2

I can’t tell you how much I am enjoying participating in this year’s Stay at Home Round Robin (SAHRR) hosted by Gail@ Quilting Gail. I’m already hoping there will be a 2023 SAHRR! Gail and several co-hosts are taking turns each week to share a border prompt. Gail is responsible for Week Five, and she gave us two options, either applique or rail fence. Rail fence would have been a snap to make with either three or four equal width strips sewn together, but I just wasn’t feeling it. I’ve only done a bit of applique, and I’m far from confident with this piecing technique, but then I thought how cute some doggie paw prints would look. I found an image online and managed to make four 4″ squares with none-too-uniform needle-turned appliqued paw prints on them that I’m pretty happy with. At this point my project measures about 43″ square.

To-Do #3

I am keeping up with the flying geese units for my three temperature quilts, generally completing them first thing each morning. The first column depicts the temps in my town in northern New Mexico. The second is for my stepdaughter who lives in the Bay Area in California, and the third is for my stepson who currently lives in the state of Washington. Below are the units for all three locales for February 1st-14th. They show quite a range of temperatures from -2 depicted as the low in my NM town Jan 3rd & 4th (Kona Orchid Ice) to a high of 76 on Jan 10th & 11th in a Bay Area city in CA Jan (Kona Chartreuse).

  1. Lucy’s quilt is looking great – I love the colors. Choosing the doggie paws for the border was a great idea; it really ties in well! I’d have a hard time keeping those three temps in the right place! Really fun seeing that one grow!

Ooh-la-la, Mary! Look at those pretty colors in Lucy’s quilt. It is gorgeous, and all those fun I-spy blocks. OMG!!! Puppy paws?!!! How the heck cute is that. I mean seriously, could you have possibly come up with a better idea for this round?? No. No, you could not. And giving applique a try – I am SO proud of you. The temperature blocks really show the diversity between those three locations in a really easy-to-see visual. Good luck with your list this week. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  4. Lucy’s I Spy quilt top is just adorable. I’m not really comfortable with applique either, but gosh your paw prints on the SAHRR are making me wonder if I should try applique instead of rail fence. Loving the temperature quilts!
