SAHRR2023 Center Block

I’ve been looking forward to participating in  SAHRR2023 since I finished up SAHRR2022 last year because it was so much fun customizing my design and stretching my piecing skills. See my Blue Dog quilt here and a similar one I made for my stepson, Drew, here.

For this year, I have decided to make a wall hanging using Alison glass fabrics and coordinating Kona solids. I decided to make my SAHRR2023 a color gradient project (Big Surprise I know!), so I started with one of my red-orange Alison Glass prints along with Kona Coral and Poppy. I used the center of Kitty Wilkins’s Fierce block which she designed for the 2019 Summer Sampler to help participants strengthen their tiny paper piecing skills. See the complete Fierce block made by Kate@SwimBikeQuilt here. My SAHRR2023 center measures 4.5”square.

  1. What a cool block! I look forward to seeing what direction you take with it. 🙂

  2. This will be fun to see as you progress. I seriously thought about making a small block (6″ though – not 4.5″!!) so I’ll see what you do with it. Fun!

I love your center block — you never cease to amaze me! I wish I had patience to work with small pieces of fabric! I can’t wait to see your progress with this quilt – I’m sure it will be a beautiful work of art!

  4. I love that you have an intention to make a wall hanging and will be working smaller. Beautiful block for the center!

Wow, wow, WOWEE, Mary! What a center block. It is stunning. I am so amazed at your paper piecing skills. They blow me away. What a cool nine-patch of sorts – one with a whole lotta work to it. I am pumped to see where the next round takes you. This is SO cool. I’m so happy you are joining in again this year. {{Hugs}} a bunch. ~smile~ Roseanne

  7. Wow – this is a tiny center block! Very curious to see your progress with this Mary.
