I made several pillows this month. I’ll start with the only pillow I made that wasn’t Halloween-themed.
My friend, Kristen, recently moved into a new house and her living room has a mid-century modern theme. I found a cute pattern online and decided to make her a pillow. Unfortunately the pattern had severe flaws in it, and could not be paper pieced without major modifications. I have enrolled in a foundation paper piecing design class with Melissa of Quilt All the Things and completed the introductory lessons. I contacted Melissa and sent her a photo of one of the templates, and she confirmed that the template could not be paper pieced as designed. I think the pattern may have been drafted using AI, and Melissa also thought that was likely. I was absolutely flabbergasted. I’ve purchased many FPP patterns, and they have all been decently designed. Melissa confirmed my idea that I needed to print multiple copies of the flawed templates, cut them up, and add seam allowance. I wouldn’t have been able to do that without the lessons I’ve learned so far from Melissa’s FPP Design class. So it was satisfying to figure out how to modify this pattern and make it work. I find it interesting that I was not able to leave a review.
Now Back to Halloween
I really love one of Hawthorne Supply Co.’s Halloween fabrics called Halloween Haunt in Candlelight . I had enough to make two lumbar pillow covers and quilted them simply with my walking foot.

Quilt Blocks
I made two Alison Glass color challenge blocks. The first is a monochrome block with light, medium, and dark values of one color:
The second is the colors of a place I love. I chose to make one of Leila Gardunia’s Scrappy Mountains with a strip of blue fabric representing a lake.
Lastly I made the Libra block for the Starry Signs Sew-along.
November Goals
I plan to sew to work on some Christmas ornaments and a Christmas wall hanging. I also want to get more of the supplemental blocks sewn the Starry Signs Sew-along as well as the last constellation block, Sagittarius. And probably another Alison Glass color challenge block.

Love your mid-century mod house, turned pillow! Bummer the pattern wasn’t designed to work!!! We can’t tell, but I believe you. Ohh, and love your mountain block inside a star!!! So good!!!

What a cool pillow – mid century modern is such a unique style. That is so interesting about the pattern possibly being drafted in AI. Good for you on the foundation piecing class. Your Alison Glass blocks are quite pretty.
We have to clean the house before I can do anything today. We are strolling through dust bunnies with cat fur – ick!

I’m so glad that you are enrolled in Melissa’s class and she was able to confirm your thoughts about the mid century house FPP pattern. I’m sorry it was not properly designed, but I’m glad you were able to make it work! Looks like a really fun month of making to me, and I hope you have fun quilting in November. I’m going to try to focus on making good progress on a bed quilt for my in-laws, which means I need to buckle down and cut the fabric (my least favorite step).
