Sunday Stash #9–Terra Australis

image

For Christmas my friend gave me one-yard cuts of two of the above fabrics–the big orange flowers with feathers on the left and the turquoise and orange flowers on the right because the owners at ThreadBear told her I loved it. The fabrics are by an Australian designer, Emma Jean Jansen, and the collection is called Terra Australis. It is amazing that my local quilt store is carrying this new collection because it’s not all that popular yet here in the US, but they fell in love with it when they saw it at Quilt Market in Houston. My friend also gave me a gift certificate to ThreadBear so I bought one-yard cuts of the other four fabrics. Then I bought yardage of Kona Shadow (bottom left) on Etsy to use with this collection.

I have big plans for this stash! I plan to make 25 twelve-inch finished blocks to make into a quilt for my bed. With sashing it will be 72″x72″, so I’m thinking I’ll add a pieced border to make it bigger, but I really don’t have to figure that out today! I will be using blocks sewn from Blossom Heart Quilts’ The Bee Hive tutorials and also some blocks from her  Modern HST Sampler Quilt-Along. I am also going to make up some the blocks from the 2015 Fabri-Quilt Block Blog Hop, and I just came across Stitchery Dickery Dock’s Sugar Block Club this weekend. I can’t wait to make the modern churn dash January block. Each block will have some triangles in them which is major progress for someone who used to be so triangle-phobic!  It should be lots of fun. I’ll definitely be giving updates on Freshly Pieced‘ WIP Wednesday.
