My Favorite Feb 2021 Finish

My favorite finish this month is the Cats & Birds quilt I recently gave to my friend, Kristen, for her baby, Luciana (Lucy) who is due in April. I used  the Geometric Cat pattern by Quiet Play for the center of the quilt, and the little abstract birds flitting around in the inner borders are from the free Sparrow Quilt pattern by Mitzie@Jittery Wings , which I paper-pieced using purple, blue, and teal Kona solids. I cut the sparrows into 3.5” squares rather than the shape on the template, rotating the squares to a diamond shape so the sparrows were angled at 45 degrees, and I then sewed setting corner triangles onto the diamonds to make them into 5 inch squares to inset into the 5-inch inner borders. This is a throw size quilt at 57” square. One of these days I’ll make a more traditionally-sized baby quilt! I love how happy (and gloriously pregnant!) Kristen looks in the pic below:

Here’s a photo that shows the entire front of the quilt.

And here is a pic of the back of the quilt:
