My April 2021 One Monthly Goal was to make a mini quilt that used the Shoal fish squares I improv pieced, some Sashiko squares, and indigo prints from my mom’s stash from the 1990s along with some Alison Glass Kaleidoscope solids. I also found a very simple paper-pieced fish pattern in this 35 Cool Paper Piecing Patterns post that I used to make two more fish to include in my Indigo Mini quilt. I plan to hang this 24” x 29.5” mini quilt over a very ugly fuse box that is exposed during warmer weather months when I move my design boards and prop them up against the open door into the back room.
For Lotus Blossom Sashiko square, I traced the lotus blossom image that was included in Wefty Needle’s instructions for the Lotus Blossom Quilt and then stitched it with white Sashiko thread on dark blue Sashiko fabric.
I quilted this mini very simply with straight lines using white thread in the sashing and one straight line with navy blue thread on the blue border.
The border and binding fabric is Sevenberry navy kasuri crosshatch. It is a favorite fabric that’s been in my stash for a few years. I was almost out of it and was happy to find it at the Etsy shop Rochester Textile.
I’m so happy to have this mini quilt completed. I just need to cut a piece of a dowel rod and plan to get the ugly fuse box covered very soon!

I enjoy the relationships between the different design elements: the shapes repeating throughout the mini-quilt as well as the use of lines: your choice of specific elements of fabrics, the use of stitching, creating the interesting relationships.
