- Take a Quilt as You Go class on August 5th. √Done
To-Do #1
I made good progress with my Break of Day Quilt. I’m really enjoying working with these colors. Erica with Kitchen Table Quilting did an amazing job blending these sunrise colors together. Below is a pic of units made for the upper left quadrant of the quilt top.
To-Do #2
A few months ago my niece, Mary Frances, bought a lovely vintage home. I’m making her a set of eight herringbone place mats as a house-warming gift. She sent me a few photos of some of her decor, and I found two fabrics from the Chasing Wildflowers Collection by Juniper Row Design for Hawthorne Supply Co: Small Butterfly Dreams in Pink and Small Wildflower in Pink that she liked for the place mats. I also ordered a print from Giucy Giuce’s Fabric From the Attic Collection called Matrix in Mulberry (it has the cute pink pliers on top of it). On Saturday I pulled some more coordinating fabrics from my stash that I may use when I start making the place mats. Looking over my fabric pull, I decided I needed a couple more rust prints, so I have two more prints from the Chasing Wildflowers collection on order.
To-Do #3
I really enjoyed taking the Quilt as You Go class on Friday taught by Cindy at Santa Fe Quilting. She taught us two QAYG methods: traditional QAYG which involves hand-stitching on the front which didn’t really interest me. The second method from the book Quilt as You Go Handbook by Pauline Rogers is called Between the Blocks. I liked this one a lot better because it is machine stitched on both sides. I practiced in class but ripped out some of my sewing when I got home because my blocks were somewhat misaligned. I know I can do better and plan to try again this coming weekend. The quilt below was made by Cindy using QAYG. I love her purple cornerstone stars.
To-Do for the week of August 8th-14th:
- Make more progress on Break of Day.
- Make a very small table topper using the QAYG technique I learned from Cindy at Santa Fe Quilting.
- Do a little sashiko stitching.
Linking up with Texas Quilt Gal: To-Do Tuesday.

Break of Day is gorgeous, Mary! That pattern is tempting me… Those are pretty fabrics for the placemats, too – I love your color choices. The class you took on QAYG sounds really helpful! Thanks for your sweet note from last night. It has been fun to get to know you through our blogs! Maybe we will get to meet someday!
