2021 Quilting/Stitching Goals

I know I’m not the only one anxious to turn the calendar to 2021! I am joining the #2021Planning Party hosted by Yvonne@ Quilting Jetgirl. I’ve participated in these Planning Parties hosted by Yvonne for the past five years. (See my 2020, 2020 Mid Year Review2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016 posts for previous quilting-related goals). I really enjoy the opportunity to be more intentional about what I want to accomplish in the coming year. Generally I also include a look back at the previous year, but this year I wrote a separate 2020 Quilting/Stitching Recap post.

I have some general goals for the coming year related to quilting and stitching. As there are SO many amazing quilt patterns available that I want to make, I don’t feel the need to design my own from scratch, but I do enjoy modifying tutorials and patterns (after first purchasing them) to customize some of my projects. I also want to stretch my paper-piecing skills possibly with a Violet Craft Abstraction quilt. And then a 180 from the precision of paper-piecing, I also want to play with more improv projects.

QuiltCon Together 2021

I will be attending the virtual QuiltCon conference in February 2021 and have signed up for four workshops to increase my quilt design/modification and piecing skills. They are:

  • Sylvia Schaefer’s Rainbow Sun
  • Cheryl Brickey’s Serendipity Blocks in EQ8
  • Yvonne Fuch’s Quilt Design
  • Libs Elliott’s Y-Seams Not Cry-Seams

Block of the Month Programs

I have signed up for two BOMs. The first is Quiet Play Pattern Club 2021. Kristy is offering a great deal for people who sign up the 2021 pattern club. I’ve opted for the $6.75 monthly option. It includes some gorgeous paper-pieced blocks, surprise blocks from her archives, and the primary draw for me are the unique paper-pieced borders. I love the star border, and I’m sure I’ll use it in a future project.

I’ve also signed up for the 2021 Snowflake Embroidery BOM through Wise Craft Handmade. I can’t wait to learn more cool stitching/embroidery techniques from Blair Stocker! Follow the tag #wisecraftsnowflakebom this coming year for lots of stitching eye candy.

Sashiko

In addition to the stitching I will do with the Snowflake Embroidery BOM, I have several Sashiko projects to work on this year including a cool Jellyfish design that I think will look awesome in rainbow Sashiko thread!

Playful Color Quilt Guild

As a member of Rebecca Bryan’s Playful Color Quilt Guild, I have downloaded her amazing Murmuration pattern. I’ve been wanting to make this quilt for some time, and I plan to make the physical and mental space to finally make this improv quilt in 2021.

Bokeh Quilt-Along

I have decided to participate in Quilting Jetgirl’s Bokeh Quilt-Along because I want to increase my curved-piecing skills and may actually try to make some inset curved stars (though the traditional Drunkard’s Path curved pieces is a good fall back if I struggle with this technique). I’m still determining what color palette I will use. I’m considering branching out a little, but we’ll see!

Quilting Gifts for Special Occasions in 2021

  • A colorful Cat and Birds quilt for a friend’s baby due this Spring
  • A Teal Ombre High School graduation quilt for my great-niece Sophia
  • An ocean/sea life Meadowland quilt for my nephew Jack’s 50th birthday in July
  • An Ombre Lotus Blossom birthday quilt for a special and very spiritual woman

Miscellaneous

I am almost certain to make some holiday projects though I’ll leave that up in the air for now. I also plan to make more donation blocks and a donation quilt in 2021.

That’s about it for now. Happy New Year!

  1. You have a good year planned out! That murmuration quilt is stunning, and I’m so tempted to join in on Yvonne’s quilt along. I haven’t signed up for QuiltCon, so I’ll be watching your posts to see what you experience!

Hi Mary! Wow, it sounds like we’ll have a lot of different eye candy to enjoy this upcoming year. It remains to be seen what color palettes you’ll use and if you do branch out from teal, purple and even solids. I’m going to check out the links you’ve shared – thanks for doing so! ~smile~ Roseanne

Wow, great planning! A lot but also very structured, so I hope you manage to accomplish many of your goals. I also hope you enjoy the virtual QuiltCon. I visited this year and it was the highlight of the year. I can’t imagine it being online so I will skip next year. Really hope you get what you hope for!
