My December 2022 One Monthly Goal is to finish the Sashiko squares pictured below for Christmas/birthday presents for my friend Kristen who was born on Christmas Day. I plan to make a small rectangular pillow with the three cats and a set of five coasters with the other squares similar to ones I made last year for my stepdaughter (link to post about those coasters here).

Linking up to Elm Street Quilts: Dec 2022 One Monthly Goal.

That’s a doable goal for December. These will finish up to make some lovely coasters!

My husband was born the day after Christmas, and I know I deeply appreciate everyone who takes the effort to celebrate someone’s birthday in the middle of the holiday season. Those look like they will be fun to work on for your friend!

Your sashiko looks fantastic! What kind of thread are you using? Is it variegated?

It is a lovely variegated thread I purchase from embroidery.com called Weeks Dye Works Pearl Cotton #8 Caribbean.

OH MY GOODNESS, Mary — I have been reading backwards through your posts to get caught up and now I feel like my head is about to explode (in a good way)! I am delighted to see that several of the projects I quilted for you made your Top Five list for 2022. The projects you’re considering for 2023 are so fabulous that I’m tempted to add them all to my own (enormous) list. And finally, the PELETON!! I need to talk to you about that because I’ve looked at it a couple of times and walked away, but honestly I never thought about starting out with a simple, totally-attainable-even-on-a-bad-day goal like 10 minutes. And yet that’s 70 minutes for the week, which is probably a huge health improvement over zero minutes of cardio exercise per week. Do you have the regular Peleton or the Peleton Plus? Do you do those online classes from Peleton, use it with some other kind of exercise app, or just use the bike without connecting to anything external at all? I saw a few used Peleton bikes for sale locally on Craig’s list at a huge savings over buying a new one. Anything you know of that I should watch out for in a used Peleton? I had been enjoying riding my bike on the greenway a few years ago but found that I couldn’t create a sticking habit with that because I don’t have an easy way to get my bike to the greenway when my husband is traveling for work (he travels a lot, his car has the bike rack, and I drive a silly convertible), and of course outdoor biking is only feasible when it’s not super hot or super cold and when the greenway isn’t flooded or slippery with mud from rain…
Oh yeah, back to quilting! Your temperature quilts look fabulous and I can’t wait to have them in my hot little hands for quilting. Happy New Year to you and your family, and HAPPY QUILTING in 2023!
