I am joining the weekly To-Do Tuesday Linky Party hosted by my friend, Roseanne, at Home Sewn By Us. I find goal-setting to be extremely helpful to get more accomplished, and since I’m always trying to get one more project done, I’m all for a little extra push and/or encouragement.
To-Do for the week of November 19th-November 25th:
- Finish binding my Lumen quilt. – √ Done
- Familiarize myself with the Quick Curve Rule by Sew Kind of Wonderful and make sense of the Metro Medallion pattern. Start cutting some fabric and possibly make one block. – √ Done
To-Do #1
I did finish binding my Lumen quilt earlier this week and tried to get an outside shot of it on Saturday, but the sunshine washed out the vibrant colors, so I again took photos on my bed. See my Lumen Quilt Finished post for more photos and info about this project.
To-Do #2
Thanks to sewing some Fizzy and Blue Onion blocks this year, curved piecing is not as scary to me anymore. I made four Metro Medallion blocks over the weekend, and while I would not say they were easy, I would say they weren’t as difficult as I anticipated which is good because I have 38 more blocks to make! Sewing the curves is feeling more comfortable, but cutting the curved pieces is still challenging. More often than not, I haven’t pressed hard enough on my rotary cutter (gotta make strength training more of a priority in 2020!), so there are little areas that need to be recut or straggler threads connecting the pieces I’ve cut despite having a fresh blade in my rotary cutter. The dark grey charcoal fabric is Essex Linen, and it is definitely harder to cut than my other cotton fabric. I have found that standing on a short sturdy step stool (about four inches high) gives me better leverage, and some of my cuts are actually clean!
I’ve decided to call this project Medallion Lanterns as the inner portion of the block seems lantern-like to me. I will be sewing triangles on the corners of the blocks to form diamonds in the centers of the light grey lanterns (see link to pattern above to see what I’m talking about!), but I will wait to do that until I have all 42 blocks sewn.
To-Do for the week of November 26th through December 2nd
- Make ten more Medallion Lantern blocks.
Linking up to Home Sewn By Us: To-Do Tuesday Linky #16.
Hi Mary! Aww, yes. I see the triangles. Is it just a snowball-type piece in each corner of the block? That looks quite pretty and adds another layer to the overall design. Ten more blocks sounds ambitious for a week including a holiday. I wish you lots of luck – you’ve been doing awesome with these weekly lists. Thank you for linking up today! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
