When I wrote my 2020 Quilting Goals post back on 12/19/19, the fact that we were entering into a new decade felt a little surreal, but I had no idea what a strange year 2020 would be. I am joining the #2020MidYearCheckIn hosted by Yvonne@ Quilting Jetgirl. I’ve participated in these Planning Parties hosted by Yvonne for the past four years. (See my 2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016 posts for previous quilting-related goals).

I had several priorities for this year. Let’s see how I’ve done so far:

Curved Piecing

I  have definitely increased my confidence with curved piecing. In early May I finished my Glimmers of Gold quilt for my friend Karla:

I’m currently working on another curved project called Aviary. Here are a couple cute fussy cut units that are being included in the quilt top.

Color/Solids/Triangles

I have been participating in Rebecca Bryan’s Solstice 2020 Block of the Month. I am making the Solstice Monochromatic version in a blue colorway with a little silver shimmer fabric. I am current through June with this BOM.

Donation Blocks and Quilts

I have continued to make blocks for Kat & Cat Quilts Covered in Love project, and I also donated my Vertices quilt to benefit the Mercy Hospital Hospice program.

More Mini Quilts/Pillows

I  haven’t done too much in this area though I did make a Rainbow Mini Mini and an Improv Table Runner. I’m currently in the process of making a mini kitty quilt to go on the modified Blithe quilt I finished in June for my full-size bed. And I plan to make some sunflower placemats and tablerunner for my sister-in-law in the coming months.

Less Fiddly/More Bang for my Buck

My Blithe (Modified) quilt definitely was not fiddly, and for being such a large quilt, it went together quickly.

The Hummingbirds quilt I finished in May also nicely fits this category.

Christmas Quilts

I have completed two Christmas quilt tops that I can’t currently share in case their recipients happen to take a look at my blog. I plan to finish a couple more Christmas quilts before the end of the year.

A Couple Additions for the Remainder of 2020

Sashiko

I started doing some Sashiko stitching in June and recently finished the four Sashiko Coasters that I’m going to send to my niece next month for her birthday. I definitely plan to do more Sashiko stitching in the last half of 2020.

Summer Sampler Alumni Quilt

Sarah Harris @acorncornerquilts and I became acquainted in June when we both commented on a post by Yvonne@quiltingjetgirl regarding a black and white block she had sewed to be contributed to a quilt that will either be donated or raffled off and the proceeds will be donated. The purpose of this quilt is to bring attention to the Black Lives Matter movement. Follow the tag #summersamplerblm to see the progress of the blocks being made for this worthy project. Sarah and I decided that we wanted to organize a separate block drive for black and white blocks made from the current or past Summer Samplers to honor the Black Lives Matter movement and to directly benefit the Social Justice Sewing Academy. SJSA enables youth activists to be seen and heard through the medium of fabric. I will be sewing the blocks into a quilt top and then will send it to Sarah for quilting. Sarah will do the quilting and her mum will bind the quilt. We plan to have it auctioned off this fall. Below is a block that was made for this project by Sarah’s mum, Eileen.
